Vivekananda Ashrama

History & Legacy

As the ashram grew, local villagers developed great faith in the Swami and sought his help for various problems, including health issues. To assist them, the Swami began using local herbs and plants for minor ailments, leading to the establishment of the Medical Center at Sri Ramakrishna Seva Ashram.

Today, this center is the only source of medical care for a wide area, serving over 50 nearby villages within a 50 km radius. Run by a qualified monastic doctor and paramedical staff, it provides basic medical assistance to around 10,000 patients each year, all free of charge. Serious cases are referred to hospitals in Tanakpur and other nearby locations. The center continues to reflect the dedication and spirit of service of Swami Vivekananda and his successors.
