Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa
Vivekananda Ashrama
Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa (GAP)
In 2010, to celebrate the 150th birthday of Swami Vivekananda, the Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa was started with support from the Indian government. This program helps children aged 5 to 12 by providing physical, mental, moral, and intellectual training.
Currently, the IDBI Bank funds the project, which includes about 50 local children. The program runs every day from 3.30 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. in summer and 7.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. in winter season. 5 teachers provide extra academic help, while monastic members teach moral lessons based on values. On daily basis apart from getting academic classes etc. they sing bhajans, prayers and practice few minutes meditation as well.
The children receive nutritious food daily, including milk, eggs, breakfast, and fruits. At the end of each session, they get items for playing games. Every month, their health is checked, and tests are given to see how well they are doing.
Furthermore, the program provides everyday items like soap, oil, toothbrushes, toothpaste, clothes, and educational supplies regularly. This project aims to support the overall development of children in the community.
